An Invitation
We have had some great news. Sheila Hannon has been nominated for a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Breakthrough Fund award –a national scheme to support ‘cultural entrepreneurs’ If we get it there’ll be even more amazing stuff from SOS over the next few years.
The City Council rejected our appeal against the funding cut, but we’ve now got an application in for project funding and think another email bombardment may not be the best plan just at the moment. We’ll let you know what happens and if we need your help again –it’s great to know you’re there.

John Christopher Wood’s brilliantly funny one-man show THE NAKED TRUTH got 5 stars in the Evening Post, and John is donating a performance to a lucky angel. If you win we’ll help you find a venue (it could be your living room!) and you can invite friends and family for a celebration, hold a fundraiser yourself, have an after dinner entertainment –whatever you want**.
The chances of winning will be much higher than the National Lottery, your contribution will go to a great cause, and it could be the best return on your money in the current economic climate. (Of course you can increase your chances and buy more than one number.) Pay £4.34 monthly (minimum 12 weeks), or an annual sum of £52 preferably by Standing Order.

Opportunities Workshops
Local Writers Wanted

Anyone can write five minutes…
Show of Strength Theatre Company are running three workshops for writers living in the BS3 postcode area. The sessions are being held at the Southville Centre on the 11th and 25th November and the 9th of December 2008 from 7- 9pm.
Show of Strength will help you develop a five minute monologue (approx 1000 words) with a focus on local, independent shops and retail experiences. A selection of these works will be professionally produced in a series of exciting performances in the shops themselves on the 17th of January 2009.

All monologues should be entered by 12 noon on 6th of January 2009 for the selection process. Please feel free to send your entry in even if you are unable to attend a workshop.

In Development 2008: SOS and Travelling Light: INVENTING THE FUTURE
Travelling Light Theatre Company and Show of Strength selected 25 young people to take part in the SHORT SHARP SHOTS Young Writers’ project.
Now TL and SOS will develop more work by some of these writers for professional production in June 2009 aimed at young audiences and their families. The weekend will be called INVENTING THE FUTURE
