Peter, Bower Ashton. The right hand side panel on most pages shows news and coming events. Events include the many Ashton Court events, the Bristol Marathon, the Ashton Beer Festival and Bristol City (BCFC) football home games. Anything less than a mile from Bower Ashton. Forgive me if I very occasionally get carried away by something I like further away and don't forget all the repeating regular events, clubs and meetings too.
Greville Smyth parks riverside path leads to the old Tow Path now part of the Avon Trail, for walkers or cyclists. The old tow path runs along the gorge to Pill and enters the gorge beneath Brunel's beautiful suspension bridge Our Bristol neighbours in Ashton include the many small shops of North Street, rather dominated by the enormous red brick 'Tobacco Factory'. Now a theatre but once a very small part of the Wills then Imperial Tobacco empires. Bower Ashton is only two miles from the centre of Bristol, with the entrance to the historic Bristol Docks just across the River Avon. Quite an interesting and usually pleasant mix. Bristol's restricted growth westward over the last two centuries has been more than partially due to the lands once owned by and the influence of the Smyth family of Ashton Court. While Bower Ashton is a mainly residential district. It has two large educational facilities: Ashton Park School/Sports Centre and the Creative Arts Campus of the University of the West of England (UWE). There are a few small commercial ventures. With various clubs and societies, including the playing ground of Bedminster Cricket Club. As well as the kennels and stables for Bristol's Police Dog and Mounted Sections. I will add whatever events and information I am aware of. Feel free to email me if I have missed any events or to suggest a link to a site relating to Bower Ashton. The changes section on the contacts pages gives a history of recent changes to the site.
