Troopers Hill Local Nature Reserve:

Troopers Hill is a haven for wildlife in east Bristol only 3 miles from the City Centre.
An introduction to the reserve and some photographs are included on this website. There are also pages giving details about the hill's history and wildlife. A more detailed description can be found in the Management Plan which is available for download as a pdf file. Troopers Hill Field and Troopers Hill Woods are adjacent areas in which we also have an interest.

For details of other Local Nature Reserves and wildlife spaces in Bristol and the surrounding area explore the Avon Valley; visit our Nature in the City pages or see Bristol's Big Wildlife Map.

The Friends of Troopers Hill aim to:

- Provide a friendly community focus for people who care about Troopers Hill.
- Carry out practical conservation work to help look after Troopers Hill.
- Organise public events such as walks and talks.
- Work with Bristol Parks to make sure Troopers Hill is well looked after.
We hold work parties on the 1st Saturday of each month, 10am to mid-day. Meet at the corner of Greendown and Troopers Hill Road. New volunteers are always welcome.
Explore this website for further details and photos of our events and work parties. Our Newsletters will keep you up to date with all the latest information and you can view some clips from our video project.
Bristol Views

Friends of Troopers Hill have an excellent relationship with Bristol Parks and we are working together through the Management Plan to bring about improvements to the site and the way it is managed. In our relationship we have always accepted that Bristol Parks' resources are limited and that in order to bring about some of the improvements that we want to see it is necessary for Friends of Troopers Hill to raise funds ourselves. Our Friends' Funds page details some of our successes and shows how the money has been spent. Our most recent award is a grant of over £18,000 from YANSEC for works to the Greendown entrance and for new benches. Our Friends' Friends page includes details of local organisations who have worked with the Friends of Troopers Hill.
If you would like to be added to our mailing list to receive our Newsletter, which is produced every two months, please send your name and address to . To save costs we prefer to use email, but we are also happy to deliver printed copies.

The Friends of Troopers Hill does not charge membership fees and does not have a formal membership. Our meetings and events are open to everyone with an interest in Troopers Hill or its surroundings. A copy of the Friends of Troopers Hill Constitution (as revised at the 2007 AGM) can be downloaded here: Friends of Troopers Hill Constitution.
Troopers Hill Local Nature Reserve is owned by Bristol City Council and managed by Bristol Parks. The Friends of Troopers Hill work in partnership with Bristol Parks through Claire Adams, Community Parks Manager assisted by Gavin Harrison.

From our formation in 2003 until September 2008 Bristol Parks also supported Friends of Troopers Hill through the Local Nature Reserves Officer post held by Sally Oldfield. The post was externally funded through the Nature in the City and Wildspace! projects. Funding was only in place until March 2009 so when Sally left in October 2008 she could not be replaced. Bristol Parks are currently seeking new funding to allow Sally's excellent work to continue through the appointment of a new Local Nature Reserves Officer.

To mark five years of Friends of Troopers Hill and as a big thank you to Sally we presented her with a wooden vase and this certificate at our meeting on 1st October 2008.
Friends of Troopers Hill is an active member of the Bristol Parks Forum an umbrella organisation for community park groups and organisations in the city with an interest in their local parks and green spaces.
